El Centro, California - On August 13, 2008, Imperial County Deputy Probation Officer Irene Rios was killed in a solo vehicle rollover traffic accident on I-8 Mountain Springs Grade. Officer Rios had been with Imperial County Probation for six years. She started her career as a counselor at the Receiving Home.
2005, her first assignment as a deputy probation officer was to the Juvenile Unit where she was assigned to the El Centro Community School. In 2008, Officer Rios was assigned to the Placement Unit, where she provided supervision and services to minors in out-of-home placements.She was on her way to a placement visit when the accident occurred.

Arnold C. Garcia

It is a thankless and often perilous job, one that Arnold Garcia performed without a gun, baton, chemical spray or personal alarm.
About 1 a.m. on April 4, a teenager knocked on a bedroom door from inside. He asked to be let out to use the bathroom. As soon as Garcia unlocked the door, he was struck in the head with a desk leg. The alleged assailant then fled with another teenager, but the two boys, ages 16 and 17, were captured a short time later.
"Arnold Garcia was not a highly visible figure, as are many officers in our department
who service courts and supervise probationers. Nor did he patrol our streets in uniform,
as Police officers and sheriffs do. He was an almost 'private' -

Sacramento CA, Juvenile Hall – On August 19, 1964 Probation Counselor Julius Micheletti was working in the unit supervising youth when a juvenile resident struck him with a pool cue in an attempt to escape. Julius was knocked unconscious and the attack resulted in traumatic brain injury. Julius was taken to a nearby hospital where surgeons worked on him for hours. On August 21, 1964 Julius died from his injuries. Julius was entombed along side his mother and father at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Sacramento County Probation Department honors Julius Micheletti and his ultimate sacrifice to the department and citizens of Sacramento County for which he served.
The Probation Department held a Memorial in honor of Julius Micheletti on May 20, 2011 at St. Mary’s Cemetery and held a Plaque Unveiling at the Youth Detention Facility honoring his dedication and sacrifice to the department.
